Resolutions of Glee & Sux

A few years ago I made a New Year's resolution to always have three things I'm anticipating with joy. This is harder than it sounds. At times, when there is a big trip, or a mom-visit, or ? it is easier. Other times, you have to look for the glee in smaller events like taking Luke to the extra big dog park or ?. Right now I'm looking forward to a trip in 52 days, camping on Rt2 and down the Oregon Coast (soon, not yet planned), and to not teaching until the end of September (I'll still work on some writing projects so I hate to say "not working in the summer"). I want to find cool art in Seattle and I'm going to take my laptop to this cool coffeehut on the canal where I can write outside with Luke under the table.

This year's resolution is a bit of a different focus. I wanted to try to do more things where I have no innate skills; do what I sux at (as the kids say). Wed morning at bootcamp, I tried to do the crab crawl. I'm not sure if you have ever tried this (much less tried this in the rain), but it is hard. For those who aren't familiar with the crab crawl, you are on your feet and hands with your belly in the air (butt HIGH). Then you crawl. Impossible. I could get in the position (for yogi's it is the table-top), but just couldn't move. So, I'll be working on that.

Dr. Drag, my recent therapist, suggested that I try a craft (he didn't know about the resolution). I wish I were crafty, but after trying to make one greeting card, I gave up. But, this summer, I have some fun crafts planned for the under-5-year-old set. We'll see....

Another goal is that I would like to learn to play guitar. I had a friend who has a guitar in her living room. I never heard her play it, but she told me that she looked up a Taylor Swift song's chords and practiced. I didn't even know that was possible. When I had another friend visit Seattle, he taught me a few chords. It was really hard, but fun. So, I found a guitar on craigslist (thanks Jason's ex-wife for leaving her guitar behind--it was a cheap buy), and I have a referral for an instructor. I don't think I'm going to become an Avett Sister overnight, but I hope I can at least cobble together a song. Stay tuned!
