It is a little soul-crushing not to see the sun on solstice. But, "weather" we see it or not, the sun-full-of-energy-and-light is always there. Sorry about the pun. Wordplay is all that is left on dreary days.
Sara, the kids, and the pups and I celebrated a lazy, gray afternoon by going on a picnic. We packed up bagels, cheese, crackers, yogurt, fruit, and a parachute to sit on. Luke wasn't hungry because he "snacked" on Hallie's food. We weren't sure how much he got into, but he wasn't even hungry for dinner (that NEVER happens), so I think it was the better part of the gallon container.
Mads searched for clovers in the grass and she played, barefoot, on the sandy playground nearby. Max, who is want to work on his lung development when separated from family, was a jewel and gazed at little girls on the swing-set when him mom and sis when into the Nordic Cultural Center for a little break.
Then, I went home to read under a blanket. I did something I don't think I've ever done before.... I started reading a book I hadn't realized I had read (The Wonder Spot)! I must have been at a low concentration point in my life b/c I didn't remember many of the scenes, but the book doesn't seem very memorable (unlike her Girls' Guide to Hunting and Fishing) so chances seem high that I'll pick it back up again in another year or two. Next time, I'll skip the re-read!
