Racing Stripes (p365; 6.2.11)

Last night, I drove to Capitol Hill to meet friend-Esther for Pho near her new apartment. En route, there was this muscle car with a racing stripe behind me (in truth: awesomely rad, but for the purposes of this story picture die hard retro racing machine with exhaust flaring). As a confession, I had just gotten off (illegal while driving) little red flip phone. In my defense, an unknown number from my home area code was calling and I wanted to make sure everyone was OK--don't worry, it was just Friend calling from a different number. I didn't notice Muscle Car until Luke got super excited. Perhaps he thought there would be a drag race? I got caught by a mob of moviegoers outside the Harvard Exit theatre, and there the striped car pulled into the oncoming traffic lane to turn left: Props from this former Jersey-Driver for that break-away move. Over the past 15 hours, I have seen several cars with racing strips. It reminds me of a movie I saw this weekend, Bill Cunningham New York, where the New York Times fashion photographer is able to predict trends by watching patterns among what everyday New Yorkers wear. It is a great film (stay through the credits to hear Lou Reed sing I'll be your Mirror). Anyway, I predict muscle cars with racing stripes to be big at the next Detroit Auto Show. Just like the ones shown here:

Do you think my orange Fit would look good in stripes?
